abuse charges. he could spend the rest of his life in prison. after he is sentenced, sandusky's first stop will be camp hill state prison. that is where he is going to undergo testing and classification. there are also lawsuits filed by his victims against penn state. they are expected total in the millions of dollars. 9news now will have complete team coverage of the sentencing coming up. police in alexandria are investigating the city's latest murder. 30-year-old marks ides died after some sort of trauma to the body. police found just before 2:00 sunday morning. >> we have to wait to determine cause and manner of death but we know there was trauma to the upper body. we just don't know exactly what caused it or if anything else is involved. at this point in time, the detectives do have a great deal

years more in office. new information about the u.s. border patrol agent killed by friendly fire. the head of the border patrol says nicholas ivy opened fire on two agents believing they were armed smugglers. ivy was shot and killed when those agents returned fire. acting co-cheese -- co-cheese -- the sheriff wouldn't say if ivy was the first to shoot or not. a california company space x launched a falcon rocket with 1000 pounds of cargo, including ice cream. the ship is expected to reach the space station on wednesday. if you step outside, you are going to feel the cold of fall. it is here. howard is back in two minutes with what you can expect for the rest of the forecast. the rising price of

half point. a power failure at a plant and a pipe line shut down led to supply shortages on the west coast for gas. average price for a gallon of gas in california $4.49. that makes it the highest in the nation. in many parts of the state prices climbed 40 cents a gallon in the last week alone. here in the dc area, this actually feels good in comparison. we are paying $3.73 for gas. and it costs more to get a higher education this year. new data showed tuition and fees at private colleges and universities rose 3.9%. the good news, this year's increase in private college tuition is the smallest on record. still well, well above the pace of inflation and how our earnings are growing. >> how many people you know get a 4% raise in their pay each year? > we are back in two minutes

patchy fog, temperatures running in the upper 30s to upper 40s out there, sunrise at 7:11. we are going to see the clouds roll-out today. by lunch time might be a sprinkle going on. 4:00 a shower, light rain in a few spots. then this evening light rain is going to be rolling back in. highs today only about 54 degrees. mid-30s out in the shanendoah valley, winchester, cumberland, by the bay mid to upper 40s near 50 degrees with washington right now. good visibility, capital domes, clear skies officially, 46 degrees, north wind at 5. a big difference from friday when we had temperatures in the low 80s. 30s in kansas city and denver. oklahoma and texas looking at 30s there. much of the country feeling this chill in the air. while we are seeing these

showers, this is yesterday's rain leaving. this is tonight later today's rain now come out of the mississippi valley into the tennessee valley, raining in mississippi and tennessee. all of this making a beeline right toward the metro area. there could be a few areas north and west dealing with the sprinkles. here's the futurecast moving until noon now. montgomery county might see a couple of sprinkles going then. the better chance of showers will be north and west of dc. tonight we are going to have showers around for the o's yankees game, they may have tough times here, keeping the rain shower activity over the region. tomorrow morning especially south and east, the tomorrow a little piece of energy will pull away. sunny in the afternoon, warmer

into the 60-degree range on tuesday. wednesday we are going to warm up even more ahead of this front, we'll warm toward about 70. most of the showers just do the dc split. temperatures are going to struggle. in the shanendoah valley we may not get to 50 degrees today due to the early arrival of clouds. winchester 47, closer to 60 in easton. warmer south and east. we are stopping in the low to mid-50s here in the metro. as we look at the forecast in detail, 54 degrees today with afternoon showers. cool tomorrow, upper 50s to near 60, wednesday looks like a much better day, it will be warmer and around 70. as we head toward thursday and friday, good news with the nats coming home for game three of their series. 67 thursday. slight chance of a shower right now early line on the weekends

health providers are rushing to notify parents around the nation they could be at risk for if you think gallon meningitis. >> -g for if you think al -- for if you thinkal -- for meningitis. >> reporter: 18 people with confirmed cases with meningitis are being treated here. >> the whole thing is in a state of flux. >> reporter: the cdc says so far 47 people in seven states tennessee, virginia, maryland, florida, north carolina, indiana and michigan have contracted meningitis. five people have died. the number of cases is expected to grow. >> we see the symptoms beginning somewhere one to four weeks after the injection occurs. the investigation is ongoing. > >> reporter: health officials say 75235 silts in 23 states may have received the tainted

steroids. >> reporter: meningitis is an inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord. the symptoms include severe headache, nausea, dizziness and fever. >> early treatment can definitely help. patients who might have been exposed should be vigilant not onset of the symptoms. >> reporter: the new england compounding center supplied the steroids and has recalled 18,000 vials. companies lick the one in massachusetts custom mix medicines that aren't always available. the products have not subject to fda approval. >> a third case of meningitis has been confirmed in our area. maryland health officials say this case is tied to a tainted steroid injection last month. so far the outbreak has left seven people dead, including one
